Press Release: May 2nd, 2007
Hot on the heels of Imagine announcing the acquisition of Coolwave Communications of The Netherlands last week, the Group is again in the news today by overtaking BT as the No. 1 alternative fixed line telecoms supplier to Irish SME's.
The Comreg commissioned Millard Brown Irish Business Survey just released shows that Imagine has over 6 percent of the Irish SME market. This impressive share of 6% is only based on the Imagine Communications Group's Imagine and Access brands.
The Millard Brown Business Survey does not feature some of the big names of the past such as Colt Telecom, Cable and Wireless, and Energis. Lack of effective regulation and foot dragging on LLU and Mobile Access in the Irish Telecoms market over the past few years has meant that the Irish fixed market has proved to be a tough place for competitors to Eircom. Many of these companies have invested hundreds of millions and now have little to show for it, but now as the tide looks like its about to turn with the long awaited Telecoms Bill about to become law, it's an Irish owned company Imagine that has emerged as a front runner.
Imagine had revenues of €10m in 2004, €20m in 2005, €40m in 2006 and will have €80m in turnover in 2007. Imagine is led by Irish Telecom's entrepreneur Sean Bolger.
